When looking at the mass market today, such as the colourful and knitted Nike shoes, or the colourful rubber Crocs, we have accepted them as mass market today. It is a product widely recognized to be successful and popular. When placing them out of context of the mass market though, they seem rather extreme. No one would have bet on these items becoming mass market before they did.
When creating new products realise that nothing is too extreme, too colourful, too weird to become mass market. In hindsight, many products seem extreme if you place them out of context, but we have all since accepted them as mass market.
